I’m happy to announce that I am Standing for Election for the Billingham Central Ward in the coming Local Elections. These will be held on Thursday 4th May.

Billingham Central

The main reason I want to stand in the Billingham Central Ward is to work with Stockton Borough Council & other interested agencies to bring back control of the Town Centre into Public Ownership. The centre has been badly neglected, especially the West Precinct & the empty flats above the shops. Their are officially over 70 Homeless Families in the Borough . Yet we have around 50 empty properties which could & should be brought back into use.

Having lived in Billingham almost all of my life, it saddens me to see the current state of the Centre. Particularly the West Precinct & the back of the centre behind Asda. Below is what was promised from Developers in 2013 with a supposed investment of £20M

West Precinct Today

If you go around the back of Asda the view is even more depressing.

Empty Flats

Its way past time for something to be done about the Town Centre. In my opinion the Centre should never have been sold in the first place. The people of Billingham no longer have the chance to hold anyone to account about the condition of the place. If anyone does stand up & raise any issues they are simply told by current Councillors “there is nothing we can do, as its privately owned” or words to that effect.

Time for Change

Of course it’s disappointing that the Government have chosen other “more affluent” places than Billingham for “levelling up” funding. However its galling to see all the money SBC have & are spending on Stockton High St whilst Billingham is neglected. This has to change & that’s why I’m standing for Election to the Billingham Central Ward on 4th May. I hope I can count on your support.

Dog Fowling

I was out on the Streets today (14 March) when I bumped into the hard working Colin from Stockton Council, he was busy sweeping up broken glass from Cheviot Crescent. I asked him whether Dog Fouling a problem, “yes massive” was his reply. He went on to say that the area (Billingham Central) was the worst for dog fouling he had ever known. He had been in this area for 3 years having spent years elsewhere in the Borough. This needs sorting out, if Elected I will seek to have Cameras put up to catch the offenders & bring them to justice.
